Mid Career Change

How many times can a person have a mid career change ? For most people, it is just one, but for me, I have gone through twice.

As an engineer trained person, I was ready to take on challenges upon graduating from the famous Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in 1996. In a hurry to get married, so that my soul is taken care, immediately after the last paper of my exam, I work at Pulau Seraya for the insulation/cladding works of the Singapore power stations new generators, when my then future brother in law cum schoolmate, required a coordinator to handle the main contractors who were playing hard on the company.

Life there was short, I quit when the job in just 2 months. Had hard times to even take a leak (official toilet is like half km away), and you cannot even find any greenery (not even grass) on the island ! Soon, I was back in campus, when I have to take the supplementary papers for 3 subjects. Upon my graduation, I joined Meng Hup Seng Sanitary & Plumbing system. I design and coordinate first hand, cold and hot water system, sanitation system in building and before even the foundation of the ground was done. I oversee the conversion of the historical ice-skating ring in Jurong into a restaurant. The installation of sumps, sewerage, sanitation, and water pipe installation was my main project coordinating job, on upgrading of the Singapore Press Holdings at Jurong Port Road. But life was not good, I was feeling alone. My desperation to get married was what put me into this company. Eventually, my loathe of the site work, put me in a logger heads with my towkay, a non-educated person, but made millions by tagging with a main contractor. 6 months was enough, to have enough money to get married.

In my next blog, is the change in my life from a single person to a HUSBAND ! Bye for now.
